Man fell asleep in a dumpster and woke up in a landfill: police

It is unknown to the police whether the man was intoxicated prior to hopping into the dumpster and landing in the landfill

A 49-year-old man in Detroit, Michigan found himself in a Wayne County landfill after likely falling asleep in a garbage dumpster on Monday, police said.

Van Buren Police Lt. Charles Bazzy said the individual was seen walking around the garbage dump during the morning hours, The Detroit News reported.

Officers from the local police department were contacted and spoke to the man who seemed to be unharmed. He received medical attention at the hospital as a precaution but was later released, Bazzy said. “He was transported to an area hospital for what appeared to be minor injuries,” notes the Facebook post. 

It is unknown to the police whether the man was intoxicated prior to hopping into the dumpster and landing in the landfill, nor do they know his age.

Bazzy said investigators were unlikely to seek charges against the man.

“There is no further information at this time.”
